<DT>美國聖地牙哥因為與墨西哥接壤,所以氣候偏亞熱帶氣候,冬暖夏涼,氣溫不超過攝氏30度,素為美國避暑勝地,同時也是美國本土最大軍港,港內隨時有航母在補給維修.當地氣溫當然也很適合爬蟲類的飼養.所以號稱美國西岸的最大爬蟲秀--IRBA( 國際爬蟲繁殖者協會)爬蟲展每年都在這裡舉行兩次.這次訪美碰巧趕上IRBA爬蟲展,免不了要特別抽空去看看,門票美金七元,進門後所背的攝影背包還被工作人員要求檢查,太誇張了吧,恐怖份子會去炸爬蟲展嗎?九一一之後,美國公共展場都會檢查隨身背包,到現在還是未曾放鬆.

<DT>這場爬蟲秀在聖地牙哥市區一棟公共活動中心舉行,規模並沒有預料中大,但也有上百個大小不等的參展攤位,人潮以爬蟲展來說算是頗為踴躍的,展出的爬蟲種類多半都是一般大眾化的種類,像鬃獅蜥,變色龍 ,蘇卡達 ,豹龜,卡羅萊納箱龜,王蛇,奶蛇等等之類的.原本與Aquazoo 的沈總編約定要為他們好好寫篇報導的,結果也因為沒什麼特別值得報導的東東而作罷,只能讓大家感覺一下美國爬蟲展的現場情形了.與其說是爬蟲展,不如說是假日爬蟲市場更為貼切,因為型態與本地的假日玉市,花市沒什麼不同,只是規模比較大而已.參展的繁殖者,除少數像Sandfire這種比較大的專業繁殖場外,都是家庭式的繁殖者,產品的重疊性很高,產量也是僅夠做小賣,至於國際性則是毫無感覺,繞了一圈發現自己竟是現場唯一的亞洲人. </DT>
